About

Hi, my name is Neema. I live in an idyllic hamlet in the Northeastern part of the US by way of Nairobi. When I was coming up with blog names, I realized that the initials for Modern African Table spell out mat and when reversed tam. In Swahili tam-tam (snacks) is a derivative of the word tamu (meaning delicious or sweet), and it is what I’m always in pursuit of.  I created Modern African Table because I spend a lot of time thinking about the future of African cuisine – what it is, and where it is headed. Africa is as diverse in its people as its food. Join me then in exploring modern African cookery, culinary traditions, as well as the intersection between my cultural and artistic influences to create culinary art.
